My Background

My name is Nina Cuevas, Class of 2005, from Yonkers, New York.  I am the Far West Outreach Officer and absolutely LOVE this job. During my high school years I was the swim team captain and class president.  I attended USMAPS and was the yearbook editor (I was the layout editor in HS).  At West Point I was the class historian and I'm currently the Reunion Chairwoman for my 5 year class reunion.  While a cadet I was on my company Sandhurst Team (GO DRAGONS! And DUKES!) and was on the USMA SCUBA team.  I was stationed to Fort Campbell, KY and deployed to Iraq twice with them as an Army Engineer.  Prior to my decision to attend West Point I was involved in a competitive program to attend art school, wore platform shoes and polished my nails green, blue, yellow and every other color under the sun.  While a junior I learned about West Point and I was hooked.  9 years later, I wouldn't change my decision for the world.

Regarding more information

Travis,
For more information about West Point, I recommend you check out our main Admissions website (http://admissions.westpoint.edu/).  From there you can request to receive more information.  To talk with an Admissions Officer for your region (which is the Southwest), please call (845) 938-5717.  MAJ Cline is responsible for that region and his email is Christopher.Cline@usma.edu

I hope this helps.

Hello

Hello my name is Courtney, I am a sophomore in high school and I am in AFJROTC. I'm currently attending a public school but, I have an opportunity to attend a private school. I was just wondering which looked better to USMA having been in JROTC for four years or going to a private school for three? I look forward to hearing from you! Thanks!

RE: Hello from Courtney

Courtney,
JROTC, in general, is a good addition to your file.  Having some leadership positions in JROTC is also helpful.  Regarding private vs. public schools, there really isn't much of a difference.  More important is the quality of the education along with your grades, achievements, SAT/ACT scores, and evaluations from your teachers.  Good luck and keep working hard!

Quick Question

My name is Dan Schneider, and I am a senior at Hockinson High in WA. I was wondering how the selection works if some one were to choose to enter a different branch of the military after USMA?

We are going to have to sit down here for my interview shortly. I am sure looking forward to it!

Thanks so much,

Respectfully,

Dan Schneider

RE: Quick Question

Going to another branch of service besides The Army is done occasionally, but it's rare.  It's been even more rare since 2001 but there have been a couple cases since that time.

I can't offer any tips as to what one would need to do to make this happen, but I would suggest that if you did enter West Point, you should assume that it's almost certain that you would enter The Army upon graduation.  You could be one of those rare cases, but I wouldn't want you to have any false expectations.

Lastly, why would one want to go anywhere else besides The Army (just kidding... we need great men and women in ALL of the services)!!!
