USMA Chair Of Transformation Appointed in January 2006
The Department of Systems Engineering welcomed Dr. Timothy T. Elkins as the USMA Chair of Transformation effective 9 Jan 2006. The Office of Force Transformation under the Office of the Secretary of Defense recently designed a set of initiatives under the title of “Education for Transformation and Information Age Leaders”. A main initiative in this effort is the positioning of special Transformation Chairs at defense education institutions. This is a multi-purpose position intended to foster education and collaborative research within and between defense educational institutions. The Transformation Chair is expected to advise USMA leadership on issues associated with aligning institutional elements to support defense transformation, to develop, in collaboration with other Transformation Chairs and USMA faculty, Information Age & Defense Transformation content appropriate for inclusion in curricula, and to motivate and facilitate USMA-based research efforts as part of the DoD Transformation Research Program.
Dr. Elkins holds a Ph.D. in Management Science from Rutgers University, was on the faculty of the Stern School of Business at New York University and ran a consulting firm focusing on operations management with an emphasis on processes and systems. Dr. Elkins has significant experience in transforming a large failing business in addition to previous faculty experience at Rutgers University and the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Dr. Elkins possesses a great deal of practical experience and domain expertise in organizational management processes central to transformation efforts.
